Welcome to the Faculty of Business and Economy at Republic University

The Faculty of Business and Economy at Republic University is separated into two distincts Schools, the first one: the Robert Owen School of economics will offer you a very wide range of economy related fields of study. This is at the Adam Smith School of Business that you will find our very popular M.B.A as well as our specialized business patterns such as the E-commerce, the healthcare administration  Master's or other specialized fields like the International Finance M.B.A's.

The Faculty of Business and Economy at Republic University offers a range of flexible undergraduate degrees for students looking for a successful and rewarding career in the global business environment.

Our aim is to provide our graduates with the required knowledge of local and international business and commercial environments, as well as the technical, communication and problem solving skills necessary to fully prepare them for employment either in England, the United States of America or overseas.

Students are able to choose a general degree program, such as the Bachelor of Commerce, which offers maximum flexibility, sampling a number of first year subjects before choosing an area of specialisation in their second year.

Alternatively, more structured programs are available, providing the accredited qualifications necessary to prepare them for future professional employment in areas such as accounting or actuarial studies.

Growing emphasis is being placed on the development of generic skills as part of students learning experience at all levels of study. Excellence in teaching is supplemented by the inclusion, in some programs, of guest lectures by industry experts. Other business and industry contributions include student internships, prizes for achievement in individual units of study, scholarships to support students during one or more years of study, and workplace-based student assignments for assessment towards units of study.

Postgraduate

Postgraduate degrees are programs of study that lead to Postgraduate Certificates, Postgraduate Diplomas, Master’s degrees or a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). They usually require the successful completion of an appropriate Undergraduate degree or diploma course and sometimes applicants must have professional or other experience. Full details of admission requirements for individual programs can be found in the Programs of Study section for Postgraduate Studies in the Republic University brochure.

Our London main campus offers outstanding opportunities for postgraduate study through a wide range of postgraduate courses and world class research centres. Our on-campus technology precinct provides opportunities of many R-UN students to participate in research projects with companies located there.

As one of England premier teaching and research institutions, we are continually developing new and relevant postgraduate programs to meet changing business requirements and challenging commercial needs. R-UN has an extensive Student Exchange Program with links to over 100 universities around the world and has postgraduate international business courses and applied finance courses delivered in several cities in Asia and Europe.

There are two main types of postgraduate courses – research and coursework on offer at the Division of Economic and Financial Studies.

Research Degrees

Higher Degrees by Research lead to either Masters or Doctoral awards and are designed to assist graduates to investigate and contribute to advanced knowledge in their chosen discipline and to develop proficiency in conducting research.

To be eligible for consideration for admission to a Master by research degree an applicant must normally possess a Bachelor degree from a recognized tertiary institution with an acceptable level of attainment in an appropriate area of study. To be eligible for admission to a Doctor of Philosophy program a candidate must normally possess either a Bachelor degree with first-class honours or a Master degree with a substantial research component from a recognised university or other tertiary institution.

The program of advanced study and research for the degree includes the submission of a thesis (Dissertation) embodying the results of the student’s work. The thesis for a PhD must form a distinct contribution to the knowledge of the subject and afford evidence of originality by the discovery of new facts or the exercise of independent critical power. A candidate’s program of study must be supervised by a member academic staff of the University, and will normally be carried out within the University.

Coursework Degrees

Coursework programs are usually completed through courses of study rather than by research. Postgraduate coursework degrees can result in three different types of accreditation Masters, Postgraduate Diploma or Postgraduate Certificate. The admission requirement for postgraduate coursework programs is normally the possession of a Degree of Bachelor from a recognised university or other tertiary institution with major studies in the appropriate field.
